Bachelor of Science in Integrated Science Teacher’s Certificate

The University of Michigan-Flint offers the Integrated Science Teacher’s Certificate Program (TCP), a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree designed for aspiring educators in Integrated Science. The program provides pathways to Michigan teacher certification or a degree in Education without certification. The curriculum is structured into three phases. Phase I focuses on preparatory coursework in education and science subjects, requiring a Dispositions, Attributes, and Proficiencies (DAP) Interview before advancing. Phase II allows students to select a primary certification grade band (Grades 5-9 or 7-12) and includes field placements in local schools, requiring between 180 and 230 hours of experience. Phase III involves extensive hands-on training with a minimum of 420 hours of field placements, including student teaching.Students must meet application deadlines—January 10 for Fall entry and September 10 for Winter entry—to progress through each phase. Program policies ensure academic performance standards are upheld, with students required to maintain satisfactory grades. Those who struggle in required coursework or student teaching will work with advisors to explore alternative academic options. This program equips future educators with the necessary skills, practical experience, and certification opportunities to teach Integrated Science effectively.

To earn a degree, students must complete at least 120 credits, though the exact number varies based on the chosen degree and concentration program. They must fulfill the General Education Program requirements, along with any additional degree and concentration-specific requirements. A minimum number of upper-division credits (300-level or above) is also necessary, with variations across academic units and programs, so students should refer to the specific requirements of their college or school—including the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education, the College of Health Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Management, or the College of Innovation and Technology—as well as their intended concentration program. Additionally, students must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.0, though some programs require a higher GPA for completion
