Graduate Certificate in Languages, Cultures and Translation: Translating

The Early Entry Graduate Certificate in Languages and Culture Studies: Translating program explores the history, theory, methodology, and profession of translation. Students work intensively in the analysis and translation of different types of discourse, including non-literary and literary texts, become familiar with computer-assisted translation, and develop advanced post-editing skills. Language pairs include English-French, English-German, English-Japanese, and English-Spanish. Exceptional undergraduates can start the graduate certificate while still taking undergraduate courses with the Early Entry program.

Baccalaureate degree in one of the certificate languages: French, German, Japanese, or Spanish, or in a closely related area that requires sufficient upper-division coursework in that language (e.g., Latin American Studies, International Studies, International Business), or an undergraduate degree, certificate, or minor in translation. Students who have a baccalaureate degree in a field outside of these areas but can demonstrate a high level of language proficiency via study abroad, a professional language credential, home language use, and/or relevant career experience may also apply. This experience should be detailed in the statement of purpose.
