Art has the power to challenge ideas, start conversations and help us see the world differently. If you're looking for a course that encourages creativity, experimentation and independent thinking, Fine Art at Northampton will help you develop your own artistic voice and creative direction.
You'll explore contemporary fine art across a range of disciplines, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, installation, lens-based and digital arts. Through workshops, projects and studio practice, you'll experiment with different materials, processes and ideas before developing an individual approach shaped by your own interests and ambitions.
At Northampton, you'll learn in spacious studios supported by practising artists and experienced technical staff. The course combines creative exploration with critical thinking, helping you understand how contemporary artists engage with audiences, ideas and current debates.
Beyond the studio, you'll have opportunities to take part in exhibitions, competitions, study visits and guest speaker events that connect your work to the wider art world. Students have achieved recognition in national competitions, while dedicated careers and employability modules help prepare you for life after university.
As your confidence grows, you'll build a substantial body of original work and develop the professional skills needed to present, discuss and exhibit your practice. Your degree culminates in a public Degree Show, giving you the opportunity to showcase your work and celebrate your development as an artist.
Whether your goal is to pursue a career in the arts, develop a freelance practice or continue into further study, you'll graduate with a portfolio of work, professional experience and a strong understanding of contemporary art practice.
