Health and social care is one of the fastest-evolving sectors in society. As populations change and new challenges emerge, there is an increasing need for professionals who can think critically, lead change and improve outcomes for diverse communities.
This degree takes a global perspective on some of the biggest challenges facing health and social care today. You'll explore issues such as wellbeing, social justice, inequality and oppression, examining how individuals, communities and organisations respond to changing needs in an increasingly complex world.
Rather than focusing on a single profession, you'll develop a broad understanding of health and social care practice, exploring how policy, research and professional practice work together to support people across diverse settings. You'll also investigate how emerging technologies and innovative approaches are transforming the way care and support are delivered.
A strong focus on wellbeing runs throughout the course, helping you understand how resilience can be promoted within individuals, communities and professional practice. As your studies progress, you'll be encouraged to think critically about current challenges and develop sustainable, evidence-informed solutions to real-world issues.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through 100 hours of work-related experience. Whether through a placement or a project designed to improve practice, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience while developing the professional, leadership and communication skills sought by employers.
In your final year, you'll have the opportunity to tailor your studies around your interests, exploring areas such as children and young people, and working with older people. You'll also undertake a research or service improvement project, allowing you to apply your learning to an area that matters to you.
Accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the course includes the opportunity to gain a CMI Level 5 Award in Management and Leadership. Combined with practical experience and academic knowledge, this degree provides a strong foundation for careers across health, social care, community services, charities and the wider public sector.
