Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology -Linguistic Anthropology

The College of Liberal Arts offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Anthropology. Our students gain a broad perspective of the discipline by taking introductory courses in sociocultural anthropology, archaeology, biological anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. Students then choose electives to focus on one or more areas of anthropology depending upon their academic and career goals. Anthropology is people: it is the comparative study of the human species. Because our species exhibits great diversity, anthropologists study the whole spectrum of human existence across time and space to address fundamental questions about what we are and why.Students are encouraged to seek out internships that complement their specific academic or career interests in anthropology, as well as secure their own faculty supervisors. Internships that are arranged through the Department of Anthropology will require an application, and will be awarded on the basis of merit and relevant experience. All internships for credit must be approved by the Undergraduate Advisor for the Department of Anthropology.Linguistic Anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin offers an exceptionally diverse and comprehensive training program that is unique and unparalleled in the US. Our strength lies in our interdisciplinary approach to the teaching and applications of Linguistic Anthropology, whereby students benefit from a program grounded in sociocultural and sociolinguistic theory.
