Graduate Certificate: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) track is designed to prepare advanced practice nurses to care for families in a wide variety of community and hospital based psychiatric settings. The curriculum features theoretically based and clinically focused courses. PMHNP graduates are eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification exam corresponding to their population foci upon graduation. The curriculum includes 780 contact hours for clinical practice. Courses must be evaluated for equivalency on admission. A grade of B or higher is required in advanced pathophysiology, advanced physical assessment, and advanced pharmacology. Students who have not completed any of these 3 courses will be admitted and required to complete them prior to beginning the clinically focused courses. Learning Outcomes PLO 1. Synthesize theories, concepts, and research in nursing, social, and biological sciences and humanities. PLO 2. Integrate advanced nursing practice knowledge and skills in managing care of selected populations. PLO 3. Engage in the research process with an emphasis on application to advanced practice. PLO 4. Engage in leadership strategies that contribute to the improvement of health care delivery and influence health. PLO 5. Integrate assessment of own learning in developing a lifelong pattern of scholarly inquiry.

Must hold a Master of Science in nursing (M.S.N.) from a regionally accredited college or university that is accredited by a nationally recognized body for nursing education accreditation
GPA: Must have at least a 3.0 higher education grade point average
