J.D./M.B.A. Dual Degree

Earn your law and business graduate degrees in an accelerated period of study. With a business background and summer courses, you may be able to graduate with both degrees in as little as three years. This joint degree program is designed to prepare law students to work in a wide range of careers in the legal and business fields. Because the modern business world is shaped by law and regulation, the knowledge obtained within this joint degree program helps uniquely position you for success. Integrated Curriculum Juris Doctor The College of Law requires the successful completion of 89 credit hours to earn your J.D. degree. You may apply up to 12 credit hours completed in the Neff College of Business and Innovation toward this requirement. For an M.B.A. course to qualify for credit toward your J.D. degree, you must earn a grade of B (3.0) or better. Under American Bar Association guidelines, Neff College of Business and Innovation courses must be taken after enrollment in the College of Law to be eligible for credit toward your J.D. degree. Master of business administration You may apply up to 12 credit hours of approved, upper-level courses in the College of Law toward requirements for your M.B.A. degree. For a law course to qualify for credit toward your M.B.A. degree, you must earn a C (2.0) or better. Review credit requirements from the current UToledo graduate catalog for the M.B.A. program within the Neff College of Business and Innovation. Awarding of Degrees You will not receive a J.D. or M.B.A. degree until you complete all the work required for both degrees. If you withdraw from the joint degree program and remain in either the College of Law or the Neff College of Business and Innovation, you shall only receive credit for work in the other college as the Dean authorizes under the rules of that college. Degrees must be awarded within time limits established by the participating colleges.

Students are eligible to apply if you have a valid Law School Admission Test (LSAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score from within the last three years and will have completed all requirements for your undergraduate degree prior to enrollment or if you enroll under 3+3 accelerated degree program.

Application: Answer all questions on the form. If a question does not apply to you or if you prefer not to answer an optional question, please indicate as such.

LSAT/GRE Scores: Toledo Law accepts either your LSAT or GRE score. The Admissions Committee considers your highest score when making admission decisions. If submitting an LSAT and GRE score, attach an addendum indicating which test score to use and why. Please contact our Toledo Law Admissions team if you have questions on how to proceed.

Transcripts: The Admissions Committee considers not only overall grades, but also course work, major(s), minor(s), and concentrations. While course work for advanced degrees is not factored into your LSAC-calculated GPA, the committee will consider graduate studies in its evaluation.

Personal Statement: The Admissions Committee gives considerable emphasis to your personal statement. Include circumstances that you wish to be considered, such as a history of overcoming disadvantage, special experiences or characteristics, or a history of high academic performance despite poor performance on standardized tests. Remember to incorporate the information you believe is indicative of future success in the legal profession.
