1. Where can I take IELTS?

There are multiple IELTS test venues across Malaysia at Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Setia Alam, Melaka, Nilai, Kepong, Johor Bahru, Kluang, Penang (island & mainland), Ipoh, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Bintulu, Tawau & Miri - offering computer-based IELTS tests.

2. How much does it cost?

IDP Malaysia IELTS test fees may vary over time. The fees is the same for both Academic and General Training versions of the test. Click Test Fee to check the latest fee (subject to change without prior notice)

3. How do I book/register for the test?

You can register for the IELTS test through the IDP Malaysia online booking system. Choose your test date and preferred test location when booking. Click test date and location for information about booking your test.

4. What if I need to postpone or cancel my IELTS test?

Please contact the test centre where you booked your IELTS test from.

Cancel a test:

If you request to cancel your application more than 14 days before the test date, you will receive a refund minus an *administration charge of 25% of your test fee.

Request to cancel your application within 14 days of the test date is not permitted. Full fee will be forfeited if you do not attend the test. If you are unable to attend due to a serious medical condition or death of immediate family members, with acceptable documents submitted within 5 days of the test date, you will receive a refund minus the local *administrative charge of 25% of your test fee.

Change of test date:

If you request to change a test date more than 14 days before the original test date, you will be charged an *administration charge of 25% of your test fee.

Request to change a test within 14 days of the original test date is not permitted unless you have a medical reason. If you are unable to attend due to a serious medical condition with acceptable documents submitted within 5 days to the test date, you will be allowed to change your test date. An *administrative charge of 25% of your test fee is applicable for change of test date. *Subject to change

5. Do I take all parts of the test on the same day? Which part do I take first?

Yes, For IELTS on Computer with IDP Malaysia, the Listening, Reading and Writing sections are completed consecutively on the same day. Your Speaking test is also scheduled on the same day via Video Call Speaking (VCS) at the test centre.

6. What are the Terms and Conditions?

It is important that you are familiar with them, kindly click Terms and Conditions. You are also advised to read and understand the test format and know what to expect on the test day.

7. What can I take into the examination room?

You must bring a valid passport or identity document you used during registration. All other belongings must be left outside the test room.

Mobile phones and communication devices must be switched off and stored as instructed. If you are found with mobile phone or any type of communication devices, you will be disqualified and your full test fee will be forfeited.

8. What is the Speaking test?

The Speaking test is a discussion over 11-14 minutes with a certified and highly qualified IELTS examiner. The test has three parts and is conducted through Video Call Speaking (VCS), where the candidate speaks to the examiner via a secure video link. The test is recorded digitally for quality and monitoring purposes.

9. What do I need for the Speaking test?

You must bring the same passport/national identity card you mentioned on your IELTS application form and continue to use the same identity documents for each part of the test. Your identity will be checked before you enter the interview room.

10. What kinds of accents can be heard in the Listening and Speaking tests?

As IELTS is an international test, a variety of English accents may be heard in the Listening test. In the Speaking test, candidates will speak with a certified and highly qualified IETLS examiner, who may also have a range of English accents.

11. How are the tests marked?

IELTS uses a 9-band scoring system to report test scores in a consistent manner. You receive individual band scores for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking and an overall band score on a band scale from one to nine. Click IELTS marking for more information.

12. Is there a pass or fall in IELTS?

No. There is no pass or fail in IELTS. Each institution, employer or immigration authority sets its own minimum score requirements.

13. Who sets the 'pass mark' for the IELTS test?

There is no pass or fail in IELTS. Scores are graded on the 9-band system. Each educational university or school sets its own minimum IELTS scores to meet its individual requirements. To find out more, search the list of organisations accepting IELTS scores.

14. When will I receive my test results?

For IELTS on Computer with IDP Malaysia, results are normally released within 1-2 days after the test date. You will be able to view your results in the Test Taker Portal (BX profile).

15. How many Test Report Forms (TRFs) am I entitled to?

For IELTS on Computer, candidates can download their electronic Test Report Form (eTRF) from their candidate portal (BX profile) once the results are released. You may download and print the eTRF for your own use or share it with organisations as required.

If you require further assistance regarding your results or TRF, please contact the test centre where you took the test.

16. How soon can I re-sit the test?

There is no restriction on how soon you can re-sit the IELTS test. You may book another test whenever you are ready. However, we strongly recommend you study additionally before taking the test again. If you wish, you may register for our IELTS Online Workshop.

18. What if I am not happy with my result?

If you are not satisfied with your result, you may request a re-mark, known as an Enquiry on Results (EOR), within six weeks of the test date. This request can be submitted directly through your candidate portal (BX profile or Test Taker Portal).

You may choose to have one or more sections of the test re-marked. An enquiry fee is required, but it will be fully refunded if your band score changes. The outcome of the EOR is usually available from the same day up to 21 days, depending on the sections requested for review.

Please note that IELTS examiners follow strict assessment guidelines and the marking process is closely monitored to ensure fairness and consistency.

16. How long are IELTS scores valid?

IELTS results are officially valid for 2 years from the date of your test. You may refer to your Test Report Form (TRF) to confirm your test date and validity period.
