Planning to work in New Zealand is a big step.

But many students ask the same question next. Can I bring my family with me?

If you're applying for an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), the answer depends on your job and salary. Use this quick guide to check what you can support.

Can you include your partner or children in your AEWV application?

You can't include your family in your AEWV application. But you may be able to support separate visas for them. This depends on your:

  • Salary

  • Job skill level

  • Job type (Green List, care, transport, etc.)

Step 2: Does your job qualify for more options?

You may get extra options if your job is:

  • On the Green List

  • A higher-skilled role (Level 1–3)

  • In approved care or transport pathways

These can allow:

  • Partner work visa (even at lower pay)

  • Child student visas

Step 3: What about your children?

To support visas for your children, you usually need:

  • At least $58,240 per year, or

  • A job that meets special pathway rules

What visas can your family apply for?

If eligible, you can support:

  • Partner visitor visa

  • Partner work visa

  • Child visitor visa

  • Child student visa

Each visa has different rights, such as working or studying in New Zealand.

Can your options change over time?

Yes. Your options can improve.

If your:

  • Salary increases, or

  • Job moves to a higher-skilled role

You may be able to support more visa types later.

What this means for your long-term plans

Your job does more than secure your visa.

It affects:

  • Whether your family can join you

  • What they are allowed to do in New Zealand

  • Your overall migration pathway

Choosing the right job early can give your family more flexibility.
