Master of Sciences in Translation Technology

The MSc in Translation Technology is a one-year, full-time programme at Dublin City University which provides advanced technical training, an essential element in the world of translation in the twenty-first century. It welcomes students with languages other than those covered by the MA in Translation Studies (i.e. French, German, Irish, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese), with English as a common language. Students on this course take modules including Software Development, Translation Technology, Localisation, Audio Visual Translation, Digital Methods in Language and Discourse and Computerised Terminology. The MSc in Translation Technology at DCU is a member of the prestigious European Masters in Translation (EMT) Network established by the Directorate-General for Translation at the European Commission. This has established the MSc programme as one of the most prestigious in Europe. Lecturers on the MSc in Translation Technology at Dublin City University are internationally recognised scholars in the field of Translation Studies, many of whom have extensive connections with the translation profession and the translation industry.

For admission to the MSc in Translation Technology, successful applicants will have:

• A degree at the level of an Irish or UK Honours undergraduate degree (H2.2 or above) or equivalent, in any undergraduate discipline.
• Applicants must have knowledge of a second language (no restrictions apply as to which language).
• Applicants with appropriate combinations of professional qualifications and experience may also be considered. This includes discipline-specific knowledge and know-how; transferable skills; basic research competency; personal effectiveness.

English language Requirements

Non-native speakers should have a degree in English or advanced English skills (e.g. IELTS 7.0 points, Cambridge Proficiency Pass or TOEFL 600/250 points). Applicants may be called for interview, and their levels of English tested.

CBTOEFL - Overall score 237.

TOEFL iBT - Overall score 92 or above.

English Test for Academic and Professional Purposes (ETAPP) - C1

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CAP) - Postgraduate: Overall score of 180 with a minimum of 169 in all components.

Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - Postgraduate: Overall score of 180 with a minimum of 169 in all components.

Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) - 63 with a minimum of 59 in all components.

Duolingo - Duolingo will be accepted with a minimum score of 120 and a score of at least 110 in each subscore.
