Applicants are required to have three A levels with grades AAB, including a grade B in the advanced language they wish to study. It is also possible to study two beginner languages (including post-GCSE) without taking an advanced language, in which case an A level is not required. A Level History, Medieval History, or Ancient History is preferred, though candidates demonstrating interest and aptitude in history and modern languages are welcomed. Acceptable subjects include Ancient History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Business Studies, Classical Civilisation, Drama and Theatre Studies, Economics, English Language, English Language and Literature, English Literature, Environmental Studies, Geography, Government and Politics, History, History of Art, Law, Medieval History, Modern or Classical Languages, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Religious Studies, and Sociology. Applicants not studying A level History must have GCSE History grade 7 and at least one humanities subject at A level or equivalent. For the International Baccalaureate, a score of 6,6,5 in Higher Level subjects plus 32 points overall is required, including a Higher Level or equivalent in the modern language if studied at advanced level. BTEC applicants should have a BTEC Extended Diploma with DDM plus BB at A level in the required subjects, or equivalent BTEC qualifications combined with A levels as specified. Applicants not studying the required language at A level may submit independent language diplomas at B2 level, such as DELF-B2 (French), DELE-B2 (Spanish), Goethe-Zertifikat-B2 (German), DILI-B2 (Italian), or TRKI 2nd Certificate (Russian), which are assessed against the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and must be taken alongside three A levels or equivalent qualifications.
