Applicants are required to have three A Levels at grades ABB, including an A in A Level Music. If Music is not studied at A Level, applicants must hold ABRSM Grade 6 Theory or Grade 8 Performance, or an equivalent qualification from Trinity or LCM, in addition to three A Levels at ABB. A Level Music Technology or Music BTEC qualifications will not be accepted as a substitute for A Level Music, though they may form part of the broader offer if all other requirements are met. In addition, a grade B at A Level is required in the advanced language the applicant intends to study. It is possible to study one beginner language without holding an A Level in that subject. General Studies is accepted. Applications from candidates not meeting the standard music requirements may still be considered on a case-by-case basis, and may involve an interview or audition. For the International Baccalaureate Diploma, applicants must have 32 points overall with 6, 5, 5 in Higher Level subjects, including either HL Music or an acceptable alternative (such as ABRSM/Trinity/LCM qualifications or an interview). A Higher Level or equivalent qualification is also required in the language to be studied. BTEC qualifications are accepted in combination with A Levels, as follows: BTEC Extended Diploma at DDM plus a B at A Level in any language taken; BTEC Diploma at DD plus a B at A Level in any language taken; or BTEC Subsidiary Diploma at D plus AB at A Level, including in any language taken. Where Music A Level is not held, similar alternatives as noted above apply. Applicants who wish to study advanced French, Spanish, German, Italian, or Russian but are not currently studying the language at A Level may also be considered if they hold an independent B2-level diploma, such as DELF-B2 (French), DELE-B2 (Spanish), Goethe-Zertifikat-B2 (German), DILI-B2 (Italian), or TRKI 2nd Certificate (Russian). These diplomas must be completed in addition to the standard academic qualifications and are assessed according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
