Master of Laws

The UC Davis School of Law offers a superior educational experience for foreign lawyers, judges, prosecutors, and other legal professionals. Classes are taught by outstanding faculty scholars and is designed around individual student needs. The curriculum for the general course of study is designed to either gain basic knowledge of the U.S. legal system or to focus on any area of legal scholarship supported by King Hall's world-class curricula. Pre-planned specialization allows students to choose and area of focus such as business law, private and public international law, international business and dispute resolution, immigration law, criminal law and procedure, intellectual property, human rights and social justice law, environmental and natural resources law, health law and bioethics, and many others from the broad curriculum. Students may also take a pre-Bar study program. The School of Law at UC Davis is one of the world's leading law schools. The UC Davis LL.M. program integrates American and international law students at all levels of study and provides LL.M. candidates with a broad curriculum of many different courses over ten months of study. Through the LL.M. program, international law graduates are able to gain a basic knowledge of the U.S. legal system and also have the opportunity to develop special expertise in a particular area of law. The LL.M. program is a 10-month course of studies. For some students, a longer period of study is vital to meeting educational and career goals.

International applicants must present satisfactory evidence of the completion of legal academic training at an accredited educational institution. American applicants must have completed at least seven years of residential study at accredited colleges and law schools, and must hold a professional degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association.

There is a minimum TOEFL score of 570 (or 230 for the computer-based examination TOEFL-CBT, or 88 for the iBT exam) required by the law school for foreign language applicants to the LL.M. program. A minimum of 6.5 IELTS is also acceptable.
