The second-year electives allow students to focus on their area of research. All candidates are expected to complete an advanced project or thesis in the second year. The project option involves artistic production and/or media research supervised by MAT faculty. The thesis option involves the writing of an extended research paper.

Applicants must have a bachelor\u2019s or master\u2019s degree in media arts and technology, art, music, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Note that outstanding students with a bachelor\u2019s degree may apply directly to the MS/Ph.D program. Typically, students who enter with a bachelor\u2019s degree will take longer to complete the Ph.D. than those with a master\u2019s degree.
TOEFL scores 550 Paper-Based Test (PBT), 80 Internet-Based Test (IBT) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Overall Band score of 7 or higher (if applicable).
