Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering - Transportation Engineering

Civil Engineering is the discipline that consists of the design, construction, and maintenance of constructed and natural infrastructure. Civil engineers apply their knowledge of mathematics and physical sciences to develop ways to efficiently utilize natural resources and the forces of nature to improve the well-being of humanity and to protect the environment. The PhD program in Civil Engineering prepares students for research careers in industry, academia, and national laboratories. Emphasis is placed on developing students' ability to conduct independent research in a new area of inquiry. Coursework and research topics are tailored to the needs of individual students in consultation with academic advisors and PhD committees. The Transportation Engineering program is on the cutting edge of multi-modal research and instruction covering such wide-ranging issues as transportation safety, intelligent transportation systems, human factors, freight movement, travel demand management, and traveler information centers.

Prior to their anticipated start date, applicants must complete a bachelor\u2019s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association; or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor\u2019s degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
