The University of Toledo’s undergraduate major in Drug Discovery and Design prepares students to research and design pharmaceutical drugs for a variety of patient needs, diseases, and health objectives. Aside from the robust career prospects across industry and academia, Drug Discovery and Design is a great pre-med major for entering medical, dental or veterinary school. This major will also equip you for advanced graduate study in pharmaceutical sciences, forensics, toxicology, and chemistry. The Drug Discovery and Design curriculum blends courses in pharmacology and toxicology, medicinal and biological chemistry, pharmaceutics, and healthcare delivery. Through the major’s required internship component and hands-on laboratory work, you will be prepared for real-world applications. After spending your first two years learning from a more traditional college experience on UToledo’s Main Campus, spend your final two years on UToledo’s Health Science Campus. The UToledo Medical Center hospitals and clinics are right next door, allowing students and researchers to see the impact and aid in drug research and development.

You are considered a freshman if you are coming to UToledo directly from high school and have never attended university. If you took college courses while enrolled in high school, you are still considered a freshman.

Minimum GPA: 2.5 for admission to pre-pharmacy

Direct Admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program

Those accepted for Direct Admission are guaranteed a seat in the Professional Division of the PharmD program as long as you maintain a 3.0 UToledo Science & Cumulative GPA throughout pre-pharmacy coursework. Those who don't qualify for Direct Admission will need to apply to the Professional Division in their second year as a pre-pharmacy student

• To qualify for Direct Admission, you must have a minimum 3.5 GPA . You must apply to UToledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and, if admitted and quality for Direct Admission, you will recieve a link to the Direct Admission Application and process in your UToledo Admission Letter.
