Filipino professionals interested in pursuing postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom can now apply for the 2027–28 Chevening Scholarship cycle, which officially opened on August 4, 2026.
The Chevening Scholarship is the UK government's flagship international scholarship program, providing funding for outstanding future leaders from eligible countries and territories to pursue a one-year master's degree in the UK. For Filipino applicants, the program presents an opportunity to further their education while developing the skills, networks, and expertise needed to create positive change at home.
The scholarship may be particularly appealing to professionals with leadership experience, well-defined career goals, and a strong commitment to public service, industry development, or community impact.
What is Covered by the Chevening Scholarship?
Because the standard awards cover major study and travel expenses, Chevening is regarded as a fully funded scholarship. Tuition fees, economy travel to and from the scholar's home country, the cost of applying for a visa, arrival and departure allowances, and a monthly living allowance are typically awarded to successful scholars.
The monthly stipend may vary depending on whether a scholar studies in London or elsewhere in the UK. Additionally, scholars engage in professional and networking activities with other scholars, alumni, UK organizations, and other leaders.
Because partner awards and course funding may differ, and there may not be standard arrangements for partners and courses, applicants should carefully review the terms of their chosen award.

Who Can Apply for Chevening?
Candidates must be citizens of a nation or territory that qualifies for Chevening and hold an undergraduate degree that enables them to enroll in a UK master's program. Candidates must have completed their undergraduate degree at least two years prior to the application deadline for the 2027–2028 cycle.
Additionally, after earning your undergraduate degree, you must have at least 2,800 hours of work experience. That is roughly equivalent to two years of full-time work, although part-time work, volunteer work, and both paid and unpaid internships can also qualify.
Applicants must choose three eligible UK master's programs by the official offer deadline, and at least one of them must extend an unconditional offer.
Additionally, after receiving the scholarship, scholars must agree to spend at least two years back in their home country. You can still apply even if you already have a master's degree. However, you must clearly demonstrate how pursuing a second master's degree will help advance your career.
What Is Chevening Looking For?
While meeting the eligibility requirements is important, Chevening also evaluates applicants based on their leadership potential, networking skills, career goals, and plans for creating positive impact.
Leadership with Clear Results
Chevening wants candidates who can provide real examples of leading others, influencing decisions, solving problems, or successfully introducing new ideas. A job title alone is not enough. Your examples should clearly explain what you personally did and what changed because of your actions.
Strong examples may include improving a process at work, leading a community project, helping others achieve better outcomes, or finding a solution to a difficult problem. Whenever possible, highlight measurable results to make your contribution easier to understand.
Meaningful Professional Relationships
Networking does not simply mean knowing many people or attending events. Chevening looks for applicants who can build and maintain professional relationships that lead to positive outcomes.
Think back to a time when you brought people together, formed a partnership, secured support for a project, or used your professional connections to solve a problem. Your application should demonstrate that you contribute to your network rather than simply benefiting from it.
A Carefully Considered Course Selection
You must choose three eligible UK master's programs, and your application should clearly explain how your preferred course supports your long-term goals.
Research each program thoroughly. Consider the modules, areas of specialization, academic strengths, and skills that will help you address challenges in your chosen field.
Currently, Chevening focuses on themes such as inclusive and sustainable development, security and stability, growth and prosperity, and climate resilience. The courses you choose should align with both your professional experience and future aspirations.
A Realistic Plan for Creating Change
A strong application should include clear short-, medium-, and long-term career goals.
Describe what you plan to do after returning home, the impact you hope to create, and how studying in the UK will help you achieve those goals. While your ambitions may be bold, they should also be realistic and achievable.
Chevening also seeks applicants who are interested in working with the UK to address shared regional and global challenges.

Chevening Scholarships are perfect for you if you're planning to study in the UK next year, particularly in September or October 2027. While waiting for your results, you can furnish your other documents and start planning your journey -- whether or not you get the scholarships, you still have a fallback.
Preparing a Strong Application
Start by reviewing your eligibility and calculating your work experience hours. Research three suitable master's programs and familiarize yourself with university admission requirements and deadlines.
You should also prepare examples that demonstrate leadership, collaboration, and measurable impact, as these will be valuable throughout the application process.
Applicants are required to provide the contact details of two referees. Candidates who advance to the interview stage must also submit reference letters and an official undergraduate degree certificate.
Applications must be completed using your own words. According to Chevening, applying for the scholarship is free, and the use of artificial intelligence to generate application responses is prohibited.
Although the Chevening Scholarship is highly competitive, a well-prepared application can help you clearly communicate your experience, career goals, and potential impact.
