ELICOS: Study English While Having An Adventure

The English language continues to be one of the most widely used languages in the world, and what better way to master it than in an English-speaking country?

In fact, ELICOS is a program that enables students to study English in Australia, allowing students to not only pick up a new language but also revel in a unique study abroad experience.

First things first, what exactly is ELICOS?

ELICOS, also known as the English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students, is the Australian equivalent of a language program catered for international students looking to improve and develop their English language skills.

With varying course durations, ELICOS offers students flexibility in developing their English skills for higher education and for work.

ELICOS is also meant for international students who are looking to study at a vocational college or university, as well as for those who require a higher standard of English in order to work in certain companies.

Benefits of ELICOS

Opens Up International Opportunities

ELICOS serves as an effective springboard for multiple international opportunities - be it gaining admission to a higher-education institution or finding a new career.

Improve English Proficiency

You’ll get to hone and enhance your English proficiency with an internationally recognised qualification, based on a curriculum that is regulated to ensure quality.

Flexible Time Management

ELICOS programs can last from one to 52 weeks depending on the course type - and allows you to work and study (ELICOS Visa, Subclass 570) at the same time. Such flexibility enables one to explore the country and taste new experiences.

Make New Connections

Since you’ll be grouped by proficiency instead of age, you’ll get to meet people of different ages and from entirely different walks of life - increasing your exposure to various perspectives.

Value For Money

Since you’ll be eligible to work part-time, the minimum wage of $740.80 per week is more than enough to offset your course fees.

Admission requirements for ELICOS Courses

Students looking to study ELICOS in Australia will have to take a placement assessment test first in order to gauge their English standards. IELTS is one of the accepted tests that students can take.

Depending on your score, you will be allowed to study for a certain type of ELICOS course, for example, the General English course which is tailored for students with an IELTS score of 4.5 and below while the English For Academic Purposes (EAP) course requires an IELTS score of 5.0 and above.
