Canada is known for quality education with relatively lower costs compared to other top study destination countries. Even so, there are still many people who are still thinking twice for studying in this beautiful country because they need scholarships and financial support for their studies.

Canadian universities & institutions scholarships

Examples include the University of Waterloo's International Masters and Doctoral Awards, which are S2 and S3 scholarships for students on research-based postgraduate programs. There is also the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (UMGF) which is an achievement-based scholarship for postgraduate study enthusiasts. There are also Carleton University Awards for International Students, Dalhousie University Scholarships, Queen's University International Scholarships, University of Saskatchewan International Student Awards, and so on.

Although it does not cover the entire cost of study, partial scholarships from universities can be generously helpful. Depending on the program, some provide a reduction in tuition fees and some provide funds worth thousands to tens of thousands of Canadian dollars.

As these are majorly merit-based types, requirements generally involve a candidate’s good academic performance, or their activities and achievements in certain fields. Canadian government scholarships

The Canadian government has several scholarship programs to help international students according to their countries of origin. For Indonesian students, you can try to compete with other candidates in the Southeast Asian region to get the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED). This program varies in value from CAD 10,200 to CAD 15,900 and is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) commonly referred to as Global Affairs Canada. In addition, there is also the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship for PhD students who excel in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Health, Social Sciences or Humanities. On an interesting note, international students in Canada who need these scholarships are not required to register with the Canadian government. Instead, they should apply and get nominated by the Canadian educational institution where they study. Once deemed eligible, the Canadian government will channel the funding to institutions to offset the cost of your studies.

In addition to the two scholarships, there is Ontario Trillium Scholarship for PhD students in the provincial area of Ontario and is funded by the local government. Then there is the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Canadian government, which opportunity is open to all talented students for both Canadian citizens and international students.

Indonesian government scholarships

State institutions such as Ministry of Finance as well as Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education in Indonesia offers a variety of funding support for eligible Indonesian students. For example the LPDP Scholarships, which fully finances your studies at the world’s best universities. The requirements vary according to which study level you choose: Magister (S2) or Doctoral (S3).
