Choosing the right study destination and university requires you to research well and weigh all the possible options.

Conducting your own online research and talking to friends and family may be a first good step, but won’t be enough to equip you with enough details to make an informed decision.

Thankfully, by attending IDP’s virtual fairs or IDP’s education fair, you’ll be able to get first-hand information from the institutions themselves to help you understand more about the study destination and course options.

During the fairs, representatives from the various universities that include Australia, the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA, and New Zealand will be present to help you better decide which school would be a good fit for you.

In this article, we will guide you through some essential questions to ask a university representative and clarify any doubts during our virtual fairs before you make your final choice!

7 questions to ask universities during our event

While you might have a long list of questions about each individual course, time during these fairs are limited so it might be wise to prepare ahead of time by highlighting the most important ones.

Be sure to add the ones below to your list of questions!

1. What are the job opportunities for graduates from my specific course?

Understanding your future job prospects after graduation is key, after all, you want to select a university that helps you maximise your potential to reach your dream career!

You want to query the representative on the employment prospects and where previous graduates are now working at. It will help you gauge if the program is a good fit for you and what you can potentially expect.

2. What is the student & campus culture like?

Understanding campus life is important, especially as an international student. You’ll want to understand if there is a diverse culture available for you to both feel comfortable as well as network with students from other nationalities and cultures.

You can also ask about student associations and cultural communities at universities, or student associations from your home country – Indonesia.

3. Is online or hybrid learning available at your chosen university?

Learning methods play an important role during the study abroad process. In this case, you need to find out and understand how teaching and learning activities are carried out, the education system, and the curriculum.

You can ask these questions when you meet university representatives at the IDP exhibition, including whether the university or department provides opportunities for students to study directly or will the course be delivered online

4. Are there scholarships available that I can apply for?

Studying abroad isn’t exactly cheap and any financial help you can get from scholarships is something you should consider applying for.

Various study destinations, from Australia to the UK offer many scholarship opportunities that can cover the entire tuition fees including the air travel and living expenses throughout your course duration.

Many universities also offer program-specific and merit-based scholarships that you can apply for. Representatives will be glad to provide you with a list of scholarships that are available and relevant to your situation.

5. Are there any part-time work opportunities on campus?

Most study destinations allow students to work part-time during the school term, but it is often outside of campus which can make it inconvenient plus incur additional expenditure on students already on a budget.

You want to find out if there are any part-time jobs available both during and after school term directly within your campus, allowing you to juggle earning money and studying for your coursework better.

6. Is campus accommodation guaranteed at the university?

Experiencing student life and campus culture is a big plus when it comes to studying abroad, and it also helps you solve many logistical problems if you stay near where classes are conducted.

Be sure to figure this out early on so that you can make living arrangements off-campus if accommodation isn’t guaranteed.

This itself can be the deciding factor especially if either convenience or living cost is a big factor for you.

7. What medical facilities or services are available for me in the country?

Every country has their own unique system of health coverage that students need to know.

This is especially important in determining the healthcare cost, the amount of health insurance you should budget for and what particular medical cost might entail.

Be sure to ask if any student health coverage extends to other treatments such as dental care as well.
