The Graduate Route Visa is a work visa route for international students who wish to stay in the UK long-term to find a job after graduation. Currently, international students can stay in the UK to work for:

• 2 years if they complete a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

  However, from January 2027, there will be a significant change to the Graduate Route visa duration:

• Students with a “Student” visa who complete a qualifying bachelor’s or master’s degree will only be granted 18 months (instead of the current 2 years).

• Those who complete a doctorate (PhD) or equivalent degree will not be affected and will still be granted 3 years if the application is valid.

For those who want to apply for a Graduate Route visa to be able to stay and work in the UK after graduation, you need to understand the following conditions:

• You are studying and living in the UK.

• Your current visa is a Student Visa or a Tier 4 Visa.

• You have taken a course while holding a Tier 4 visa. It can be a Bachelor's or Master's degree course, or courses that meet all the requirements and meet the minimum time period specified by a student visa or a Tier 4 visa.

• You have graduated from the above courses (the CAS course used when applying).

If you do not meet the above conditions to apply for a Graduate Route Visa, you need to choose other types of visas to continue to stay in the UK, such as:

• Visas for families who are staying in the UK.

• Extension of the UK Study Visa.

• Tourist visa.

• Official work visa (Tier 2).

You need to register online with the Embassy and submit supporting documents to be granted a Graduate Route Visa UK. The documents include:

• A valid passport or relevant travel document proving your identity and nationality

• Your UK Identity Card (BRP) is issued when you study at the university on a Tier 4 Visa for International Students.

• Letter of Admission Confirmation (CAS) with a reference number that matches the time you applied for your Tier 4 visa.

• A letter of admission issued by your university to ensure that you will study here when you apply for your UK Student Visa. In case you can't find it, contact your school to reissue this letter.

In addition, the UK government may require you to provide relevant documents such as:

• Proof of identity and relationship of the people involved (such as parents or children) in case you apply for them.

• A letter from the sponsor or sponsoring body of your course, within 12 months of living in the UK.

The UK Graduate Route Visa processing time starts from the moment the visa office receives your application. You will be notified of the final outcome within 8 weeks. During this time, the visa office will also update you on the progress of your application via email.
However, please note that even if you apply online, you will still need to be in the UK during this time!

You need to prepare your documents and start applying for a UK Graduate Route Visa when your Tier 4 Visa is about to expire.
You can apply as soon as your university officially announces that you have completed your course. You can apply as soon as possible, without having to wait until you receive your diploma or certificate for your course.
Normally, after completing the course, you will have 02 to 03 months to wait for your diploma and graduation ceremony. However, you also need to note that the waiting time for Graduate Route Visa approval can be longer, and you will run out of your Tier 4 Visa. When applying for a Graduate Route visa, you will need to pay the following fees:

• The application fee is £700 (approximately VND 22.4 million).

• The cost of health insurance is £624 per year in the UK (approximately VND 39.9 million for 02 years and VND 59.9 million for 03 years).
