Essential Guide Before Booking Your IELTS Test

1. Choose the Right Test Type for Your Goals

IELTS offers different test types tailored to your specific purposes. It is important to choose the one that matches your requirements:

• IELTS Academic: For those planning to study in higher education (Bachelor's to Doctorate degrees) or seeking professional registration.

• IELTS General Training: For migration, work experience, or non-academic training.

• IELTS for UKVI (Academic / General Training): Specially approved for UK Visa and Immigration applications.
  (For example, if you plan to pursue a degree in the UK, selecting IELTS UKVI Academic is highly recommended).

2. Test Format & Scoring System

The IELTS test assesses your English proficiency across 4 core skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, taking approximately 4 hours in total (excluding breaks).

How it is Marked: Scores range from Band 0 to 9. You will receive an individual band score for each of the 4 components, as well as an Overall Band Score, which is the average of your 4 component scores rounded to the nearest half or whole band.
