When you've decided to study in Australia, what are the things you need to know?

When planning to study in Australia, it's important to learn about the dos and don'ts, customs, and culture of the country. Living in a foreign country requires understanding local norms and traditions. These are all very important and will make it easier for you to adapt and fit in with the locals.

Today, we at IDP have prepared a list of things not to do in Australia that will be beneficial for all of you. Let's get started.

1. Absolutely do not ignore warning signs at the beach.

Australia's sea is quite different from Thailand's, whether it's sharks, crocodiles, jellyfish, or various currents. Therefore, you should not overlook or ignore the importance of warning signs or red flags placed to warn tourists. If you heed these warnings, Australia's sea is another beautiful place suitable for relaxation during the holidays. If you have free time, try visiting the sea or the beach in Australia.

2. Don't tip.

In Australia, tipping is different than in the United States. While in the United States it's common to tip 20 percent, in Australia people do not typically tip much. This is because it is believed that workers are already paid wages commensurate with their work.

3. Avoid using the word "Root".

The term "Root" is considered very vulgar in Australia. Therefore, you should refrain from using it in public places, as it could attract fearful glances or even provoke a confrontation.

4. You should not only stay in the cities, try to explore outside the cities as well.

Australia's tourist attractions are not limited to major cities like Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, or Perth. Smaller towns such as Coober Pedy, Alice Springs, Goolwa, or Broome are also worth visiting. If you have some free time or long holidays, you should try to visit these places. Not only will you get a change of scenery from the city, but you will also get a chance to see the local way of life in Australia.

5. Do not feed or touch the wild dingo dogs.

When you go out for a picnic, you may come across these seemingly cute wild dingoes. But don't forget that they are still wild animals. Approaching them too close or feeding them can potentially provoke them to harm you. Therefore, keeping a safe distance from these deceptively adorable yet dangerous creatures is the safest approach.

6. Do not forget to bring your umbrella, hat, and sunscreen.

Australia is a country with very strong sunlight, so preparing to deal with sunlight and UV radiation is not something to be overlooked. You should always carry a hat or sunscreen with you. Applying sunscreen during the day can also help improve the effectiveness of the cream. Be careful; if you forget to bring it, your skin may get sunburnt.

These are small things that will help you get familiar with Australian society and the environment. Adjustment is important, so you should not ignore the prohibitions or the culture of that city.
